Astrology of Compatibility: Moon and Venus

The purpose of this article is to move beyond simplistic Sun sign compatibility and introduce relational compatibility focussing on the moon and Venus. 

Understanding astrological compatibility is a very complex process that requires knowledge of the relationship patterns and blindspots in your natal chart and how they interact with another chart.

The following aims to simplify some of the basic compatibility requirements that allow for more ease between two people.

ELEMENTAL REVIEW: 

a) Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn)
b) Water signs ( Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces)
c) Fire signs, (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius)
d) Air signs, (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius)

Complementary elements:
Yin / Feminine: Earth and Water
Yang / Masculine: Air and Fire

MOON: THE HEART

Your moon sign is very important in relationships as it governs feeling a sense of belonging, while providing emotional security and familiarity with another. Having complementary moons can create ease in engagement and feeling emotionally seen and supportive of one another. We can feel taken care of, nurtured by our partner and have similar needs for safety and family. Moon signs that understand each other and function in similar ways would be more compatible. 

Zodiac moon signs within the same element would share common ways of expressing vulnerability and emotional needs.  

Additionally Earth signs are complementary to Water signs and Fire Signs are complementary to Air signs. This does not mean that that if you have a Water moon and your partner has an Air moon, the relationship is doomed, but there are probably other underlying factors that bring the relationship together. These types of dynamics requires more awareness as your basic understanding of how to settle yourself emotionally is not the same as your partner and can actually lead to confrontation. It requires more consciousness and practice on behalf of the two people involved. 

When our moons are in the same element  or complimentary elements like Earth and Water signs or Fire and Air signs, there is an inherent talent and unspoken ability to soothe each other and feel familiar to one another. 
 

VENUS: THE LOVE LANGUAGE

The sign your Venus resides in is an indicator of your love language and what you find of value in another person, in other words, what you find attractive. We can apply the same fundamentals as we did with the moon above based on the elemental modalities. If we share similar love language styles, it is easy to interpret each-other’s signals and feel as those our partner loves and appreciates us.

Venus in Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn): Loves and shows appreciation through being helpful, resourceful, committed and reliable, they love to give through time, money, touch, and tangible items and can be sentimental. 

Venus in Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces):
Loves and shows appreciation through emotional connection, nostalgia, sentiment, emotional sharing and expression, romance and vulnerability

Venus in Air Signs (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius): 
Loves through communication, sharing of ideas, writing, supporting personal autonomy, having variety of expression and expanding social contacts

Venus in Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius):
Loves through spontaneity, sexual generosity and impulsivity, optimism, humour and play

If you and your partner have Venus in the same or complimentary element, there will be an inherent understanding of how to value and love each other. We are speaking similar languages and have similar desires how we want to be loved.

We can not make assumptions based solely on the moon or Venus sign whether there will be astrological compatibility. A in depth relational analysis would be based on natal configurations of relational patterns in the natal chart, synastry, chart on chart comparison, and the combined version of two charts, called composite analysis.
